Privacy Policy

Who we are

INeedSolar is operated by SaaSquatch Ltd (Company No. 16336438), a web development agency based in London. We built this site to help UK homeowners understand solar energy — not to harvest your data.

What we collect

When you use the INeedSolar quiz and solar system builder, we collect:

• Email address — to save your solar system builder session so you can return to it
• Postcode area (first half only, e.g. BL3) — for regional sunlight and tariff estimates. We never store your full postcode or address.
• Quiz answers — electricity bill range, roof direction, roof type, homeownership status, and what you are interested in (panels, batteries, etc.)
• Builder configuration — system size, panel count, battery size, inverter type, and other settings you choose in the solar system builder
• Consent preferences — whether you opted in to marketing emails and/or installer quotes
• UTM parameters — so we know which channels are working (e.g. utm_source, utm_medium)
• Device type — mobile or desktop, for improving the experience
• Quiz completion time — to help us identify where people get stuck

Why we collect it and our lawful basis

We process your data under the following lawful bases:

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) UK GDPR) — for sending marketing emails and for sharing your details with solar installers. Both are optional and require your explicit opt-in.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) UK GDPR) — for generating your personalised solar system builder, saving your session so you can return to it, and running cookieless analytics to improve the site. Our interest in providing the service does not override your rights or expectations.

Sharing your data with installers

If you tick “I’d like to receive quotes from vetted MCS-certified installers” during the quiz, we may share your email address, postcode area, roof details, and system configuration with a small number of vetted, MCS-certified solar installation companies so they can provide you with a quote.

If you do not tick this box, we will never share your data with any installer or other third party. Your data is used solely to power your solar system builder and, if you also opted in, to send you email updates.

You can withdraw your installer consent at any time by emailing us. We will stop sharing your data with installers immediately, though we cannot recall data already shared prior to your withdrawal.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in Supabase, an EU-hosted PostgreSQL database. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use Resend to deliver emails — they process your email address solely for delivery and do not use it for any other purpose.

Cookies

We do not use tracking cookies. We use Umami, a privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics platform that does not track individuals or require consent banners.

Affiliate links

Some links on INeedSolar are affiliate links via Amazon Associates, Sunstore, and the AWIN network (including OVO Solar & Heating, Heatable, and EV King). These links track clicks via URL parameters managed by those platforms. We do not share your personal data (email, postcode, quiz answers) with any affiliate partner.

Your rights under UK GDPR

As a UK or EU resident, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Erasure — ask us to permanently delete your data
• Restrict processing — ask us to limit how we use your data while a concern is resolved
• Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from marketing or installer sharing at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@ineedsolar.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Data retention

Quiz responses and builder configurations are retained for 2 years from the date of submission, then automatically deleted. You can request deletion at any time by emailing us — we will remove your data within 30 days of your request.

Children

INeedSolar is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16 years of age.
